Crescent Bar: A response to Chelsea Bronn

After reading Chelsea Bronn’s blog post on the closure of Crescent Bar’s camping area till mid-summer, it is interesting to analyze the efforts The Wabanpum Dam’s public relations team is doing. Because of the popularity Crescent Bar’s camping has during this time of the season, it is essential for the team to educate, inform, and handle the situation as strategically as possible. The closure was necessary because of a crack in the Wanapum dam that leads to the draining of The Columbia River.

The Wanapum PR team has been focused on informing and educating the public about recreation use, environmental effects, and power resources. The team has focused in educating the public about what areas are going to be open and when for campers. They have also had to release information regarding the body found in the low water levels. Chelsea also mentioned that the team has created a crisis communication plan, which, as learned in our PR and Advertising Management course, is important especially in situations like these.

This is relevant to our course this quarter because of the strategies the firm need to implement to best address the closure. It also discusses a crisis communication plan and how to important informing the public is when situations like these arise.
